Where exactly is Nepal?
What airport should I fly into? 🛬
We recommend all guests fly into Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM)—it’s the only major international airport in Kathmandu, located 5km from the city centre.
Do I need a tourist visa? 🛂
Mostly likely, yes. British, U.S., and Philippine passport holders need to obtain a visa to visit Nepal.
You can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival or before departure at your nearest Nepal embassy.
-
· Before departure, complete the online Tourist Visa Form no earlier than 14 days prior to arrival
· Upon form completion you’ll receive a submission receipt, print it out, and bring it with you on your travels
· An arrival card may be distributed by the air hostess, if not, the arrival card will be available in the arrival lounge at the Kathmandu airport
· Take the Tourist Visa Form and the arrival card to the Immigration Desk with cash payment, and your passport
-
· It’s also possible to apply for a visa before arrival at your nearest Nepalese embassy
· This will save you time at Nepali immigration
-
You can find detailed visa information such as costs, exceptions, and more on the Nepal Department of Immigration page.
Do I need any vaccines? 💉
Yes, you should be up to date with routine vaccinations. We've listed some recommended vaccinations based on general travel guidelines. However, individual needs may vary.
-
The standard vaccines such as measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) and the diphtheria-tetanus-polio vaccine, along with Hepatitis A, Tetanus, and Typhoid
-
Hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis, Rabies, and Tuberculosis
-
While these recommended vaccinations are a good starting point, everyone's needs are different.

Is there Uber in Kathmandu? 🚖
Uber is not available in Nepal, but like most major cities, there are various options when navigating in-and-around.
-
Apps such as Pathao and InDrive work similarly to Uber and offer lower fares compared to traditonal taxis.
Here are some tips for using ride-hailing apps in Kathmandu:
· You need local SIM card (phone number) to use the app
· Download the app(s) you plan to use before your trip
· Agree on the fare before getting into the vehicle
· If you don’t have a SIM card, you can use the app to determine the expected fare when hailing a taxi
-
The traditional way to catch a ride, but fares might be slightly higher compared to ride-hailing apps.
-
You can hire a private car and dedicated driver for ~40USD a day. Please contact Devi Amgain and our travel partners at Odea Services and they’ll get you sorted.
